News from our mission team
in Iowa

On this page, you will find daily updates and pictures sent to us from our friends
and members who have travelled to Iowa on a mission to assist people in need.

A picture of the work camp group from Northwood Christian Church in Indianapolis
who is staying in our building September 14-20 while they work on restoring houses
in Iowa City, Coralville, and Cedar Rapids.

The work group at a flood damaged home in Coralville.  Members of the team are from
Indianapolis, Indiana; Nevada, Iowa; and Olive Branch, Mississippi.

Following is a note from Denise Rogers:

Eight eager workcampers arrived early Sunday afternoon at First Christian Church in
Coralville, Iowa.  We rode through heavy rain and wind until we crossed the
Iowa/Illinois border on Interstate 80.  We enjoyed a tour of the flooded areas in and
around Iowa City.  Ladies from the church left us a warm pot of chili to enjoy!  Our first
day of work included tearing out a bathroom in Coralville along the river.  We spent the
remainder of the day in Cedar Rapids doing various finishing jobs in a home which had
been flooded throughout the entire first floor, layed carpet in a sun porch, and installed
two basement windows.

The "Northwood Eight" stayed busy in two locations in the past two days.
Some of us drywalled a business while the other half of the group helped a
homeowner remove plaster between the lath of several rooms.

We have enjoyed our beautiful surroundings at First Christian Church.  We
have seen deer, rabbits, and wild turkey out of our windows.  Some of us have
run or walked the area along the river.

Wednesday evening there was a pot luck where the church welcomed us with
lovely real homeamde pies.  We "8" performed a small skit using various
props from our work experience.
